Very well said - the old saying is “a person needs important work.” It does not have to be work by anyone else’s definition, but it must be meaningful to the person.
“Retirement” for me means doing what I want to do when I want to do it - I got this definition from my mentor Jim Baska.
Most, even those who are widely accepted as “retired,” don’t get to do what they want when they want all the time - it is a matter of percentages and many factors impact that percentage.
A traditional work schedule impacts the percentage dramatically and this is when many seek a traditional retirement. Then the question becomes “what is important work now…” that also allows freedom for other joys?
Or so has been my experience working with business owners and those entering retirement.
